Assessment for Good: Ethical Assessment

Carisa Corrow & Gary Chapin

For over one hundred years, our educational assessment systems have been focused on extractive practices that take information, time, and resources from students without giving back to students or the communities in which they live. This doesn't have to be the way. We can create meaningful, competency-based assessment systems that not only help us understand what students can do with the skills and knowledge but also contribute back to communities working toward any of the Sustainable Development Goals including quality education. We can use assessment, for good. This session is organized as a virtual reflective circle which serves not only to engage in the conversation about Assessment for Good and ethical assessment but also as an example of how to collaborate digitally to build collective knowledge and growth with friends we just met!
