SDG's In Education Playground
The Mission of the ISTE Global Collaboration Network (GCN) is to provide resources and support to the education community to make meaningful and equitable global collaborations and connections through the use of technology for educators and their students. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) fit perfectly in education. We're now 10 years away from the goals' "completion date." It's time to empower our students to be the changemakers they were born to be. Come to our Playground to learn about how SDGs mixed with ISTE Standards fit into the K-12 learning environment. The ISTE GCN is a professional learning network part of the larger organization of ISTE.

Learning2gether: Reimagine Speaking and Writing
Leonor Cristina Santos
Presented By ISTE Global Collaboration Network
This presentation will showcase the study, in which students make a digital book, read their texts, and their level of fluency is rated. Creative thinking is an invaluable but underexplored concept for multilingual young writers. Creative thinking is defined from a development perspective and the concept is situated in a pedagogy that engages students in a process of writing, reading, and discovery across multiple modes of learning and communication as methodology. The result and conclusion were Digital Books which save paper and broaden students' horizons if they share on social media and get feedback from others.

STEM & SDGs with Science & Humanities: How to get hands on and integrate the SDGs
Tia Luker-Putra
Presented By ISTE Global Collaboration Network
To create future leaders, students need to evolve their ability to think critically and systematically. One way is by applying the engineering process and using STEM solutions to address the SDGs in classrooms. This lens empowers students to develop their empathy towards others, their understanding of self, and their roles as global citizens. Students can creatively work within their interests with a carefully (and easily!) designed, cross-curricular and inquiry-based learning plan that still meets standard curriculum goals. This approach motivates students to see themselves as global changemakers and influencers, as sharing their work locally, or even globally, is the goal. It also generates significant opportunities for both teachers and students to walk the learning path together through meaningful exchanges while addressing the most critical issues that face our world today.

Assessment for Good: Ethical Assessment
Carisa Corrow & Gary Chapin
Presented By ISTE Global Collaboration Network
For over one hundred years, our educational assessment systems have been focused on extractive practices that take information, time, and resources from students without giving back to students or the communities in which they live. This doesn't have to be the way. We can create meaningful, competency-based assessment systems that not only help us understand what students can do with the skills and knowledge but also contribute back to communities working toward any of the Sustainable Development Goals including quality education. We can use assessment, for good. This session is organized as a virtual reflective circle which serves not only to engage in the conversation about Assessment for Good and ethical assessment but also as an example of how to collaborate digitally to build collective knowledge and growth with friends we just met!

Empowered Learners Designing Sustainable Solutions - Deep Integration of the UN SDGs
Ian Fairhurst & Sue Floro
Presented By ISTE Global Collaboration Network
The Empathy+STEAM approach guides students to be active, creative producers of digital and technological solutions, rather than passive consumers. To also be globally mindful, informed, discerning users of ICT platforms and technological solutions. E-STEAM allows staff to implement inquiry, project / problem-based learning, building authentic future-focussed skills.
Students learn to recognise the power that they, as an individual, possess to enact change in the world. Students explore the possible future outcomes of potential actions, both positive and negative. Students investigate real-world scenarios where small changes at a local level could create big impacts at a global level (Think Global, Act Local). Students communicate with authentic audiences to develop empathy and understanding of human needs, and that communities succeed with diversity and tolerance.

The Future We Want
Silvia Scuracchio & Leandro Gomes
Presented By ISTE Global Collaboration Network
We have an ongoing project about sustainable development and the SGDs. One interesting activity was about water conservation. As an Eco-School we have a committee that includes our students, to create a plan for the school to save energy, water and take care of the residues and trash. In order to save water, students came up with the idea to install a vertical cistern at the school. They found a project, they made all the calculations using Excel. First, they created prototypes using Paint 3D, and then they created with pipes. They prepared a Sway about the project and we built the vertical cistern at the school. This cistern holds 520 liters of rainwater that we use to cleaning and to water plants.

Creating a Culture for Learning
Sharon Davison
I will share how I introduce and explore the goals beginning on the first day of learning about them. Through creating a map of the world on our first day together we begin to build an understanding of geography, where things and places are in the world, building an awareness one idea at a time. In this presentation, participants will pursue digital platforms that would help build a bridge, open a window, and spark an interest in exploring the goals. Participants will also think about service-learning opportunities that might connect with this work in their local communities, as well discover ideas to begin to see how they might begin exploring the Global Goals in and out of their classrooms/learning spaces.
