Last week, millions of children in India waited with bated breath for the exam results of its major curriculum boards. It should have been the week of hope and fresh beginnings for all of them. But, just as dreaded, some of them had utterly unnecessary and tragic ends.
Even otherwise( read: beyond the results season), India is one of the countries with a high rate of suicide- the highest among South-East Asian countries and much above the global average. The Hindu reports that there are 28 suicides every day!
What’s more alarming is that our country registers almost a 10% increase every year on these numbers.
This week, we are discussing ‘Spotting Signs of Depression In Adolescents’ with 3 panelists- each representing a very important pillar for the emotional and social constructs in the lives of children/adolescents.
We have with us Mr. Isaac Agarwal- Founder of ‘Global Suicide Prevention Squad’. Saved over 20,000 lives since September 2017. Has trained over 500,000 students, parents, teachers in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Nigeria, etc. in over 1000 schools, colleges etc. Has trained all of the Mumbai police and collaborated with them to stop suicide.
