Additionally, there are another 1.5 billion individuals who either have intermittent access to electricity or cannot afford to be connected to the grid. This is what is referred to as energy poverty, which describes the situation of people living without access to a reliable and safe source of electricity. Kerosene lamps are the most commonly used solution in these areas, but they are dangerous, toxic, and expensive.
